Victor Hugo Cliffs

Victor Hugo gathered huge inspiration from the seascapes around Guernsey. Many of its locations have spilled into his novels, especially in his epic ‘Toilers of the Sea’. Here we see Victor looking out over Icart cliffs towards Petit Bot. I wanted him in that iconic position as depicted in his sculpture homed at Candie Gardens.

Victor Hugo in Guernsey

Painting done as part of a commission by the Guernsey Tourist Board to celebrate the life and times of Victor Hugo in exile on Guernsey. It was a fantastic project to be involved with and the paintings are used as part of a fascinating microsite you can visit here.
